Slow Computer

Slow Computer carries what you need to have a great day of knowledge work at the cafe, office, campus, or library. Slow Computer fits a 14" Macbook or Thinkpad, Framework 13, or similar size laptop in its own padded sleeve. There’s room for books, snacks, and a water bottle. Six interior pockets will organize your doodads. It’s also short enough to stand upright under an airline seat with lots of room for your feet alongside.

The gusseted flap closes securely with powerful magnets, leaving no gaps for items to fall out. An optional button provides extra peace of mind, but you don’t really need it. Our beeswax-impregnated canvas is water-resistant, dry to the touch, and comes in 14 colors.

Hand carry is a first-class citizen. Before you attach a shoulder strap, try the comfy handles. Magnets suck them together for a neutral, vertical hang that won’t snag on your clothes. There are no other straps to dangle or drag on the ground. An internal fiberglass rod keeps the handles flat across your hand. The leather wrap breaks in and feels even better over time.

The front of the bag also holds an umbrella or similar long object through openings in the handle webbing.

Longevity

Beeswax-impregnated cotton canvas has no coating to delaminate or turn into messy microplastics after a few years. The natural wax wicks into the fibers and won’t flake off. If you ever need to renew it, just melt some beeswax, brush it on the outside of the bag, and use a hair dryer to help it wick in.

Slow Bags have no zippers to jam or wear out, and no plastic hardware to break. The only closure hardware is a set of rare-earth permanent magnets and a reinforced button. We sew the button on super securely, but if it ever comes loose it’s easy to re-attach. The strap attachment hardware is all solid brass.

Slow Bags have no TPU or similar touch points which would deteriorate from exposure to skin oils. We don’t use basting tape or any other adhesives, which would speed up assembly but leave sticky goop hiding in seam areas.

Slow Bags have no foam padding to compress and break apart over time, so a slim padded laptop sleeve still makes sense inside the bag.

Slow Bags are 100% repairable, by us or anyone else with a heavy-duty sewing machine.

How to Order

First, two important things:

1. Slow Bags does not take credit cards or other electronic payments. We do accept cash, check, or postal money order. You can send payment via snail mail, or if you’re local to Portland you can pay in-person.
2. Slow Bags are made to order and may take a few weeks to ship. We update you via email when we receive your payment, when we start making your bag, and when we ship it.

Send an email to order at slowbags dot net with the following information:

• The canvas colors that you want for the front/side panel, lid/rear panel, and edge trim. These can all be different, or the same. Please refer to Sailrite’s website for the color options, and use the names of colors as they appear on that page.
• The webbing color that you want for the handles. Again please refer to Sailrite’s website for the color options, and refer to colors as they are named on that page.
• Your name and full shipping address. Please triple-check this.

We will reply with an order number, total price, and an address to send payment.

Shipping is free and includes tracking, or if you’re in Portland we can deliver your finished bag.
